FAQ for ctrlX Device Portal



💬 General

What is the ctrlX Device Portal?

The ctrlX Device Portal is a web tool to manage ctrlX devices, licenses, and apps. You can:

  • See all CORE devices

  • Add ctrlX OS or engineering devices

  • Download apps and licenses

  • Assign licenses

How can I access ctrlX Device Portal?

💬 Account and User Management

How do I create an account in ctrlX Device Portal?

An account is created automatically when you buy a ctrlX device or license. 

If you need a new account, go to Service Tickets and fill the form: New company account

How do I find my company account ID?

You can find your customer account number on every license certificate.
In ctrlX Device Portal, it appears next to the logo in the header.

Why am I receiving an error when I try to login?

You may not yet be registered to an account. Request access in the Service Tickets and fill the form: Add/Remove user.

ℹ️ You will need the customer account number (available at every license certificate).

How do I add or remove users from my account?

Add users to your company account via the "Settings" page or submit a Request Ticket and enter the Name, Surname, and Email address of the users you wish to add or remove.

How do I get the admin role?

Any admin can upgrade any user to the Admin role. To remove or downgrade the Admin role, you must submit a Service Ticket.

If your account does not have any admins, please contact [email protected]. In your email, provide the Account ID and the email address of the user who should be granted admin access.

How do I manage folders?

Only admins can manage the folders access and creation. Learn more in the How-to guide

If your account does not have a folder structure, please contact [email protected]. In your email, provide the Account ID and the email address of one or more users who be the account admins.



💬 Licenses

How do I try a license before buying it?

You can assign a 10-day trial license to your device. The expiration date starts after the download and is shown in your ctrlX CORE.

What is a time-based license?

A license valid for a set time. The countdown starts when you download it from the Device Portal. Once it expires, it disappears from the device. You can add a new one anytime.

How can I purchase licenses?

You can purchase licenses through:

  • The ctrlX Store

  • The Rexroth Store

  • Your sales contact

After your order is confirmed, you’ll receive a welcome email with login details and a Software License Certificate.

How do I activate and manage my license?

All licenses are managed in the ctrlX Device Portal. The license receiver in your company gets an email when new licenses are available.

How do I transfer the license to my device?

Offline case

  1. Download the license file from the Device Details page.

  2. In ctrlX CORE, go to Settings > Licenses.

  3. Upload the license file.
    💡 Tip: Make sure your device’s date and time are correct.

Can I transfer licenses to a new device /exchanging a device?

Yes. Go to  Service Tickets  and fill the form: Transfer Licenses. You'll need:

  • Your company number

  • Old serial number

  • New serial number.

How do I remove licenses from a device?

If the license is not yet downloaded: Go to the Device Details page and click the trash icon.
If already downloaded: Submit a request to our Support team. Removal can take up to 24h.


💬 Devices

How can I find my device?

If you can't find your device it may not be registered yet. Open a Support Ticket Claim my device. If you have already seen your device in your account, it may be located in a different folder. Try changing the search filter to "All Folders".

How do I register a new device?

All controls ctrlX CORE and SD-Dongle devices are registered automatically. For Engineering PC devices or partner devices, follow the guide: How to Find and Register my devices

Why my device name is not updated automatically?

The ctrlX Device Portal is by default an offline tool and shows devices by serial number as name.

How do I find my device serial number?

For ctrlX CORE devices:

  • Go to Setting

  • Click Setting information

  • Check the Type plate section to find the device serial number 

My device is under repair. How do I retrieve the license?

  • In-warranty devices: Licenses remain in the Portal and can be reassigned.

  • Out-of-warranty devices: Licenses cannot be reassigned.

In urgent cases, we can send you a replacement device licensed the same way, once the defective unit is received. Contact our Support hotline.  

My device broke and I urgently need to replace it. How should I proceed?

In urgent cases we can send you a device that is licensed like the device you wish to return. After we receive the defective device, we will remove the Licenses and they will be “exchanged” for the ones you received on the new device.
