Profinet IR and ctrlX Drive

Hello all,

A question regarding Profinet IR and ctrlX drive, if that works together ?

Situation is a customer using a Siemens S7-1500 and S210 drives. Communicaton between is done with Profinet IR. The functionality is in the PLC performing positioning (1 drive), electrical gearing (2 drives) and torque control (1 drive) by sending the setpoint to the drives.

Is it possible to replace the S210 drives with our ctrlX Drive with Profinet option ?

What if STO over Profisafe also is a requirement ?

What is your recommendation and experience ?

Dear Servodude,

I think you mix up terms:

PROFINET in this context is available in 2 types:

- PROFINET RT (Real Time), which is supported by ctrlX DRIVE

- PROFINET IRT (Isochronous Real Time), which is not supported by ctrlX DRIVE

As far as we see it is possible to achieve the same functionality if using a ctrlX AUTOMATION solution connected over PROFINET to the superior SIEMENS control system. Please address to your sales responsible to further discuss a proper solution with him.

STO over safe fieldbus at ctrlX DRIVE is only possible if using our so called Safe Motion (SMO) functionality in using the SMES function.
