What is the SFK Backup Planner?
In a manufacturing environment, process data from equipment like the Smart Function Kit Pressing units is crucial for quality control and optimization. However, the SFK Pressing has limited internal memory.
The SFK Backup Planner (SBP) is a "set it and forget it" IT solution that automatically collects and archives this critical process data. It prevents data loss from the press's limited memory and ensures it is saved securely for future analysis.
Core Features
The system runs on a dedicated industrial computer and connects to the SFK Pressing over the network. Its main functions are:
Feature
Description
Automated Data Collection
Connects to SFK and automatically downloads process curves for every operation based on a user-defined schedule.
Centralized Archiving
Bundles the collected data into daily ZIP archives and stores them on a central network file server for easy access and management.
Proactive Data Management
Can be configured to automatically delete process data from the SFK after a successful backup, preventing the internal memory from filling up and halting production.
Flexible Scheduling
Allows users to schedule backup jobs at specific times and days, with options to back up recent data or all historical data, with or without deletion.
How to Monitor and Manage the System
The SFK Backup Planner provides an intuitive web-based interface for easy configuration and monitoring.
Dashboard: A home screen gives you an at-a-glance overview of the system's health and the status of the latest backups for each press using clear color codes (e.g., Success, Error).
Detailed Logs: For troubleshooting, you can view detailed execution logs for each backup job, which include status, duration, and any error codes.
Notifications: The system can send automated notifications for events like backup success, failure, or missed jobs, allowing you to address issues promptly.
System & Deployment
The SBP is designed for reliability and easy maintenance in an industrial setting.
Hardware: It typically runs on a rugged, fanless industrial PC. While originally developed for PR21 devices, it can be deployed on newer PR22 models or any industrial PC that supports Docker.
Software: The application runs in Docker containers, making it simple to deploy and maintain.
Secure Network Integration: The computer uses two separate network ports: one for the production (OT) network to communicate with the presses, and one for the corporate (IT) network to access the file server. This keeps the production network secure and isolated.
