Safex EtherCAT Misbehavior (ERR_PREOP_INIT_ERR)

Hello,

I’m using Safex C-15 and C-12 modules in my project. Both are part of an EtherCAT network, and I also want to use FSoE. From previous projects I’m familiar with this configuration—we have multiple projects where this EtherCAT setup works.

I’m using:

  • ctrlX SafetyEngineering 1.8.3.10207 (also tried 1.7.6.9968)

  • Safex C-15 and C-12 both with firmware version 1.0.1.53

  • ESI file dated March 26, 2024

I’ve attached a screenshot of the EtherCAT configuration (I removed almost every other component from the network to simplify troubleshooting).

Just out of curiosity, I tried an older Safex C-15 on the network and it worked immediately—without changing anything.

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated, as I’m currently unable to move forward with my project.

If it works with the older control and not with the actual one, then you have to ask yourself where the difference actually is.
If:
- the Eng. software and the esi-file
- the safety project (configuration)
- the firmware in the control
- the connection and wiring in the electrical cabinet
is identical, then only the controller seems to be the difference. And then the control must be replaced.
