Freedom and openness are the key drivers in today's automation. In addition to numerous Bosch Rexroth and ctrlX World Partner Apps, ctrlX AUTOMATION offers customers the opportunity to develop their own apps with their specific know-how and run them on ctrlX OS.
The SDK for ctrlX AUTOMATION provides a comprehensive software development kit for developing apps using various high-level programming languages. It contains some libraries, documentation, description of the REST-API and different samples. The required build environment can be easily and comfortably created with the engineering tool ctrlX WORKS.
To help customers create their own apps that fit seamlessly into the ctrlX ecosystem, Bosch Rexroth offers various services:
App validations to ensure system compatibility and secure integration into the ctrlX OS ecosystem. The results are signed apps.
Trainings on the use of the SDK for ctrlX AUTOMATION and the development of customer apps (mandatory for the development of real-time apps)
Technical support from experienced software specialists (mandatory for the development of real-time apps)
Custom App Validation
By default, the app management in ctrlX OS only allows installation of apps signed by Bosch Rexroth AG. Therefore, all apps in the ctrlX Store are signed. For the apps to get signed they needed to go through a validation process by Bosch Rexroth.
To install unsigned apps users can disable this functionality on their ctrlX OS devices which will heavily affect the systems integrity. To keep the system integrity an app publisher can get the app signed by Bosch Rexroth. To get signed, the app needs to go through a validation to ensure system compatibility and secure integration into the ctrlX OS ecosystem. The technical specifications which are checked in the validation process are defined in the App Developer Guideline.
